              Waterfalls are a beautiful creation of nature.A waterfall is simply a water stream that falls naturally from a high place.
Sri Lanka is not the country with the most waterfall in the world. But Sri Lanka is a country that claims a small land area of 65610 square kilometers and compared to that land, there are many waterfalls. About 382 identified waterfalls have been reported in Sri Lanka. There are abundant waterfalls in provinces like Sabaragamuwa province, Uwa province, Central province.

               

Rathanapura district has the highest number of waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Bambarakanda waterfall is known as the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and it is 263 meters high. Kirindioya fall is the third largest waterfall in Sri Lanka.It is 200 meters high. The most popular waterfalls in Sri Lanka are  Bambarakanda fall, Baker fall,St.clair 's fall,Ravana fall,Gartmore fall, Devon fall  and Diyaluma fall.

Waterfalls are a valuable resource for our country as a naturally created objects that has attracted local and foreign tourists in Sri Lanka 


          Some of the waterfall are very difficult to find due to find due to dense forest and sometimes completely inaccessible. When approaching the Ramboda area of Nuwara Eliya district, one can see many waterfalls close to each other . They can be mentioned as Ramboda fall, Middle Ramboda fall,Poona fall . In the pannil area of Kandy,07 waterfalls have been created from the streams flowing from knuckles Reserve. But there are currently recorded and unrecorded waterfalls in Knuckles Reserve



Various legends have been built around some of the waterfalls found in Sri Lanka. It also depicts the bond formed with the waterfall and the society.
